| Our family was a
Worldwide Church of God member. My
parents grew up in the religion, they met at Pasadena Ambassador
College, where they fell in love and married. My father worked for the
college, while my mother worked for our school. Mom liked to fix herself
up, and eventually wore a little make-up and highlighted her hair. This
was an issue to the church and much pressure was put on my father and
his job by the ministers. Sadly, they divorced after having three
children, due to the pressure of the church on other occasions
also.
Mom was disfellowshipped, dad
was not. Dad was allowed to keep his job, as long as he followed their
rules, paid his tithe, and went to church. As the years went on, Dad
missed Mom terribly, though he knew if he ever went back to her, he
would be disfellowshipped and lose his job. With all the pressure from
the church, Dad eventually turned to alcohol. He continued with his
employment at Ambassador College, but the pressure grew, and his
alcoholism got worse. At age 54 still employed with the college, Dad
died from alcoholism. Unfortunately he was one never able to escape
WWCG.
Your web site has helped me
understand many unanswered questions that I've held for many years. I
also realize why my father always shielded us from the "church," and never
explained much of it to us kids. Deep inside he knew it was wrong.
