I've often pondered about
"Christians" in
Worldwide Church of
God and I've been of the opinion some were in there.
Since I accepted that it wasn't
really God's church, the strange or bad behavior by many of the members
are easier to understand. Through the years I had difficulty
understanding bad behavior and kooks being in "God's church."
I saw many things that went much further than people being imperfect
Christians. Some of these were clearly bad people and really had no
place within what we thought was a "Christian" organization. I have no
doubt others noticed similar things.
It was very common that people in our congregation would approach me
about their being abused by the ministry. I assured them that I believed
what they were saying, because I was aware of abuse taking place. I did
always caution them that if such conversations got to the ears of the
ministry we would be kicked out. To us that was a fearful dread. I now
admire the ones that just got fed up and walked away. I might add that I
felt really bad by not being able to reduce the abuse they were victims
of. However, it seemed that validation of their experiences was of some
value to them.

Note from ESN: Most in WCG didn't
realize they were being abused. They simply thought in terms of
"blessings and curses," "being corrected," or
"undergoing trials."
