Flurry Tells Members to Cut Off From Certain Family Members: January 5, 2005 Thanks so much for keeping up your site and allowing us to share our stories. This week I will CELEBRATE my three year anniversary out of the PCG. I have had so many blessings since leaving, including financial and spiritual. I am so sorry for those years I wasted following a false prophet and neglecting a relationship with the true God.
I am writing to ask for prayers for family members still entrapped in the PCG. A few months ago these PCG members had planned to visit us (the PCG family members live out of state), but the ministry found out and forbid them to come home. Our family was never marked when we quit, so the PCG family continued to have contact with us, thinking it was okay. Last week Flurry dictated to them via a personal phone call that they are to cut off all contact (phone, letters, visits) with any ex PCG and WCG family member. This includes parents, brothers and sisters. This is causing the people involved to be severely depressed with a feeling of hopelessness. Flurry also told them that the problem about associating with ex PCG family members will be addressed in the next ministerial conference. I know that there are many PCG members who have regular contact with ex PCG and WCG family members so this could eventually affect a large percentage of the PCG. Your website is certainly helping many people find their way out of Armstrongism. Thank you so much for all your work. --Former PCG member
I Caught On To Flurry: January 16, 2005 I've been reading the letters of those with bad experiences with PCG. I didn't have a bad experience exactly. I was only there 10 months and caught on to Flurry. It was all about him, he was the "only" one, "the one God was working thru," "the one God spoke thru," "the one God backed." It was when "That Prophet" came out that I'd had enough. My Bible says "That Prophet" is Christ, not Gerald Flurry. I had the pleasure of turning my back on them and quitting, joining a friendlier, more honest group.
Since then, I've seen or read that a field house has been built, Flurry acquired a "prayer rock," and dorms have been built for school staff and students. He "won" a court case by paying the opponent (WCG). Now luxury homes for Flurry, his son (Stephen) and favored insiders are being built. Flurry talks the "last hour" but builds like he's going to be there for the next 50 years.
It pains me that he can prey on the weak and frightened, taking their money, their peace of mind, even making their children work on his "estate" and they can't or won't see it. What do they fear most? Flurry or not going to the place of safety? I believe I will be where God wants me when God wants me there and I try to live a life adhering to what I learned from the Bible, not men like Flurry. Frankly, I didn't "learn" anything from him but saw a drifter do his thing--fortunately from a distance. He didn't get a penny from me, nor did he capture my spirit. Flurry learned from what HWA did and imitated it. He's a poor imitation. I am also angered that people let themselves be taken in like that. Where is their backbone? Does God want weaklings that must be told what to do and when? No, He wants strong people who have the courage to stand up to anything, especially the satanic Flurrys of this world.
I hope we all see him go down in humiliating flames. That would be justice. --Formerly involved with PCG
Wife Lost Touch With Reality After Involvement with PCG:February 15, 2005 My wife used to be taken by her mother when she was young to attend WCG services. She stopped doing so when she became a teenager up to about three years ago when our son was born. She got into reading PCG literature and with her mom's help she got in contact with the PCG and she was completely mind controlled.
I am desperate to get my wife back since talking to her is like talking to a wall. She has completely lost touch with reality and after three months of trying I decided we need to separate to clear our heads.
However, my son is the only victim here and I need some help and guidance to prove to her that PCG is nothing but scammers and hoaxes. I have pointed her to the articles on your site but she got in touch with Dennis Leap from PCG who pretty much erased any doubts she had. Please help. Anything or any recommendations are appreciated. -- Impacted by loved one in PCG
PCG Has Ripped My Family Apart: February 24, 2005 I can only say, this PCG (and starting with the WCG) has ripped my family apart.
My mother started into the "church" in the 80's after my father listened to Armstrong on the radio. Daddy did realize Armstrong was wrong in several ways and stayed clear of the WCG. Mom on the other hand got into it hook line and sinker. She followed it through with Flurry into the PCG. Now my brother is in a living hell due to his wife, son, daughter and grandchildren being in the PCG also. I read the letters and articles on your site of former members getting out and how they are trying to get their lives straightened out. I would love to talk to a few of these people in person, e-mail or phone. Can you please help me get in contact or get them in contact with me? Thank you. --At a loss (G. S.)
Comment: If anyone wants to be put in contact with this man, please email us and refer to this letter by title and date.Update October 2005: This man gave us the following update: "My mother passed away June 27th. She understood in her last days she may have been wrong in how she believed. She asked a Baptist preacher to come in and pray with her before she got too bad to pray." He said exiters of PCG may still contact him.
PCG Shutting Down All Tape Libraries:May 2, 2005 We just learned from a friend on the inside that all PCG tape libraries have been locked down. Not even shut-ins to receive tapes until further notice. No reason given. --Former member of PCG Update February 2007: One of our contacts told us: "Not only are the tape libraries shut down, all tapes, CDs, etc. are to be destroyed immediately after being played by trusted contact persons. I don't think anything is available except on master copies at PCG HQ in Edmond."
Can Hear Flurry Inside My Head:May 3, 2005: Reading anything Flurry writes is exceedingly annoying. I can hear him inside my head when I'm reading his writings, pompously droning on and on. I can't even stand to hear him on The Key of David, spewing lies and exalting Herbert Armstrong. If my wife turns the program on, I go in the kitchen and make coffee, or something. He's such a horse's rear. --Impacted by loved one in PCG
British-Israelism Has Pagan Druidic Roots: May 5, 2005 While attending a service at a Church of God group a couple of years ago, I remember the minister chuckling and smirking, belittling those on the outside of the Armstrong group who observed Christmas and Easter, telling everyone how ignorant they were for observing holidays with roots in "pagan" customs. How surprised I was to recently learn that British-Israelism has documented pagan druidic roots. I'll bet all these Armstrong ministers that like to look down their noses at those mainstream Christians would hate to admit this. Go to this article, scroll about 2/3 of the way down the page to where the sentence starts with "Brothers supposedly..." By the way, all the articles on this site dealing with British-Israelism are well researched and the sources are documented for the reader's quick reference. --Impacted by PCG
Alex Harrison Has Done a Lot of Damage in India: May 11, 2005 I read your web site. I was a member in the PCG, a very faithful member. I live in Sri Lanka and Alex Harrison, the regional director to this area, has done lot of damage to this area. I have all proof. When we wrote about it to Gerald Flurry, he said he will look into it and then he disfellowshipped the members who wrote to him.
This sounds like so many people who have written in to your web site. Anyway, we must expose this. It was in the Philadelphia News, Jan/Feb. 2000 issue. The minister, Alex Harrison, has taken 800 Indians with 17 local elders. Those people were never baptized. This cause many of us to fight with him to get rid of them. Instead of asking the whole church to repent for inviting such unbaptized strangers (Ex 44:7-9 and Isa. 51:2 clearly says that no unbaptized strangers will eat the Passover), they are trying to cover up the whole thing. God wants to expose them.
In Flurry's Ezekiel booklet he says the Laodiceans invited the world into their churches. We have all the documents we need to prove that this group from India are not baptized. All the members were upset. From the beginning we were arguing with Alex Harrison about this, and one by one, got disfellowshipped. Alex Harrison told us if we talk about this anymore, we will be cast off too. So everyone kept quiet.
In 2003, I went to the conference, and Gerald Flurry talked about the creeping ministers and "if you know anything about a minister, you must report it to me." So in August 2003 I send about 63 pages full of evidence, that this unbaptized group should not be in PCG. (Herbert Armstrong had said it is wrong to invite such to Passover.) Then Flurry said to keep everything confidential until he handles everything and then he disfellowshipped two people, including me, for no reason. My husband is the minister here and he was not informed that two of his members were disfellowshipped either. This is a long story. I can email all the information you want (the emails and letters some of us have written to Flurry).
--Neela Wickramasinghe, Sri Lanka Updates from Neela: August 2005: My husband, Newton [PCG minister of South East Asia], went to meet Gerald Flurry [at PCG HQ on August 24, 2005] to tell that what happened in India is wrong. Flurry did not even want him to open the Bible. He said, "I know the Bible, I have written a book about Ezekiel; you don't have to explain it." He did not even want him to talk about what happened. Flurry said that he hired only "one" minister in India, but the Philadelphia News, January 2000 and September 2001 issues say that there are least 17 local elders. He is lying about that group. Dennis Leap signed the "Ordination certificates" which were given to these men. November 2005: There was no Feast site in India or Sri Lanka this year. But Mr. Flurry announced that two of his messages are being sent out to the feast sites here in India and Sri Lanka. This is a big lie!!! ... There are only two people left in Sri Lanka in the PCG. Update from ESN: A 2006 email to ESN says that at one time Alex Harrison was responsible for South Africa. While there he instructed a 75 year old grandmother in the congregation to go look for employment and refused to give her any of the third tithe that amounted to many thousands of Rand. As of 2006 Harrison is in the UK.Update from ESN: Read about Neela Wickramasinghe and her husband's new splinter group.
Should Be Some Form of Legal Protection:May 17, 2005
I broke free from the PCG about 2 years ago and its the best thing that happened to me. From the stories I've heard, its beyond the worst in evil of the "churches" or "corporate churches" out there. They are physically, spiritually and emotionally abusive and I have seriously considered contacting the authorities over some of the many weird practices they keep and inflict on their children and families. Gerald Flurry and the ministers say "jump" and the members say "how high?" There should be some form of protection legally that can help protect people from being abused by these groups, honestly. I was throwing out my PCG news articles and came across a picture of one of the youth camps showing three teenagers shooting rifles as part of the obstacle course. It could end in another WACO situation. My only question is, "what will they be having the youth do next?--shooting those who are not members of the PCG in the name of GOD?" --Exiter of PCG
Another PCG Healing Doctrine Horror Story: July 19, 2005 There is one truly horrific story of early death that I can testify to. It concerns the wife of whom I think was a headquarters minister in Edmond, Oklahoma, and it happened about ten years ago. (She may well have been the daughter-in-law of a minister and not a wife, though at the time I thought she was a minister's wife. Most ministers' sons are at least deacons.) She developed a tumor on her face. Some members encouraged her to have it removed, while others told her to just "trust in God." She had a tiny baby. With a minister for a husband, she decided to set the right example and wait for healing. As the tumor grew, she covered her face in public. She kept on attending services this way. As she became weaker, many members came to her with "natural cures." Finally as she was nearing death, she allowed a person to put acid on the tumor that was supposed to kill just the tumor. What it did was to eat huge holes into her face, with horrific results. She died in agony. So much for "a natural cure" for a deadly disease.
I have heard several others on their death beds wondering why God had not healed them. Many of them wound up saying, "I don't know why, but it isn't working." They had been taught to believe that God "had to heal" them, if they did all the right things.
The Armstrong doctrine turned God into a genie that had to perform if you rubbed the lamp just right. When He didn't perform, they were left to believe that they had failed somehow. These poor people died wondering if they had enough faith to be saved. It is a tragedy that needs to come to an end!
I hope this helps some poor sick person to seek proper medical attention before he/she becomes just another statistic. --Former WCG/PCG member Read: The Philadelphia Church of God's Healing Doctrine.
Dennis Leap Has Last Word About Feast Reservations :August 2, 2005 My father in PCG told us that Dennis Leap at one point had been talking about feast reservations and said that if any member made hotel/house reservations before he said it was okay that he would personally call and cancel them himself. --Child survivor
Wife Has Left Me Because I Wouldn't Join PCG:August 16, 2005
Hello,
My wife is a member of the Philadelphia Church of God founded by Herbert Armstrong. She has left me, I feel due to church pressure, because I would not join. How do I, or can I, get through to her that she is in a cult run by evil people? She has been a member for about 10 years. I am very, very desperate and can use any and all advice and knowledge that you can offer. I attend a very good Methodist church and am very content with my relationship with My Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. We had been married for 33 years and she now lives in a mobile trailer park very near to some of her church members, "group leaders"??? --Anonymous
Lack of Medical Attention for Severely Handicapped Child in PCG:
August 19, 2005 My husband and I are good friends with a couple who have been raising their grandchildren since birth. The children's father (who lived in their home) became involved with a co-worker who is a member of the Philadelphia Church of God and soon moved the children in with both of them and began to sever ties with his family. Due to allegations of abuse, the children were subsequently removed from his home and placed back with the grandparents. The father and his new wife moved to Edmond and have been seeking custody of the children. Today, the children were placed back with the father and his wife despite grave concerns from the grandparents and community. The primary concern is the lack of medical attention one of the children, a severely handicapped child with only minimal brain function, will receive from his father and his wife. Other concerns are that the grandparents, who have been the children's parents since birth, will no longer be allowed contact with the children since they do not agree with the teachings of the Philadelphia Church of God. Do you have any suggestions? The children will be monitored by the Department of Human Services for a period of one year in Edmond, Oklahoma. I would like to add that during the court hearing this morning, the parents stated that they merely attend the church and "aren't that involved in it." Any help or advice would be appreciated. --Oklahoma Comment: These people have been put in contact with the proper authorities.
Who Were the Early Deacons and Elders in PCG?August 31, 2005 Would it be possible to know the name of the former (and very RARE) WCG elders and deacons who went to the PCG during the very first months of 1990? --Former member of PCG Reply: An informant gave us the following info and these were the only ones known: John Amos (local elder and associate pastor of Oklahoma City congregation) Vyron Wilkins (local church elder in Oklahoma City congregation) Frank Garcia (deacon from Amarillo, TX congregation) Wilbur Malone (local church elder from St. Louis, MO congregation) Don Marshall (unsure as to whether he was a deacon in Oklahoma City congregation) We are not sure if the following men came into the PCG in 1990 or 1991: Jim Mortensen (local church elder from San Antonio and Uvalde, TX) Don Roth (local church elder from Wisconsin) Winston Davis (local church elder from North Carolina) Our source did not remember if Don Marshall was ordained in an office, or not. But it was known that Marshall was wealthy and contributed a lot of money to Flurry in those very early weeks and months of the PCG, perhaps even funding the first mailings of Malachi's Message out of his own pocket. Marshall ended up leaving the PCG very early, and it might have been within one year.
Dennis Leap and Mark Nash: August 31, 2005 I think the above list my help explain the animosity that was between Leap and Malone. [Malone died 1-27-04]. Dennis Leap helped to write Malachi's Message to make it sound like Flurry did it on his own. (I read about Leap being hired because of his talent at editing.) When Leap stood up and said (in a tape that went out) that "we could have done a better job of writing MM" (or words to that effect), Flurry blew his top. [ Update: Read August 2, 2006 letter: "Leap Has Been Chastised by Flurry Before"] He raked Leap over the coals in a following sermon for not giving MM the proper respect as being inspired by God, only through Flurry. An eye witness told me it was so bad that Mrs. Leap left the meeting room in tears. Yet, Leap was not even suspended. He is now a regional director. To my knowledge, he has not been made an evangelist, unless it has happened recently. That keeps him below Flurry's son (Stephen) and his son-in-law ( Wayne Turgeon). I believe that Flurry can't get rid of Leap, but he doesn't want to give him too much power either. Another person of interest is Mark Nash. He is a former Navy Seal or Green Beret, with all the "talents" taught to them. He went to prison for defrauding the IRS, and yet was not even suspended while in prison. In fact, he was allowed to give sermons while on leave for "good behavior." If any member on the bottom level was similarly put away, he would be put out for putting the "church" in a bad light. After all, even deacons are supposed to be "blameless" in the world and of "good reputation." What gives? What do these men know that keeps them in the "good old boy network"? These two men, at least, have knowledge that keeps them on the "inside." Otherwise, Flurry would have disposed of them long ago. Mark Nash now teaches Physical Ed and who knows what else. It doesn't take much to realize that Flurry is over a barrel with at least these two men. --Former member WCG/PCG Update: A 5-25-06 letter, "Flurry's Greedy Henchmen" stated that "Mark Nash received full pay as a minister and office manager while he served his time in prison."
PCG Youth Arrested: September 19,2005 Not so long ago I was waiting for my wife outside a department store at our local shopping mall when I spotted two teenage shoplifters being escorted out of the store by two police officers and to my surprise I recognized one of them. One of them attends the Philadelphia Church of God. Despite this incident, this teen seems like a great kid, very polite and well mannered, so I fear the sort of punishment and emotional abuse they will receive from their parents and perhaps the ministry.
I have never agreed with the way children are treated in the PCG, you just have to look at this teen that has grown up with such harsh discipline methods imposed on them to realize this does not guarantee kids will turn out to be obedient, respectful and law abiding citizens. --Ex PCG member
Administration Building: September 20, 2005
While recently driving by the Administration building of the Philadelphia Church of God, I couldn't help but notice that it looks far from impressive, especially from the rear. It looks like a building meant to look impressive and large, but it's built on such a small scale that it defeats the purpose. I would even go so far as to declare it deceptive to the casual observer. I thought that the whole building had to be a tremendous waste of the members' money. It's really a pathetic effort. --Impacted by loved one in PCG Update: Read the10-9-05 letter below about the person who wrote us and sent a photo of the Hall of Administration, which we have posted on the site.
Friend Has Problems Breaking Free After Leaving PCG and LCG: September 30, 2005 Hello There,
Being a survivor from the PCG I find your site very helpful in understanding that abuse is wide spread. Previously I had thought it was a local problem. We have a person who fellowships with us that has been a longtime CoG member having gone from WCG to PCG then LCG. Currently he realizes that there is something wrong with the CoG's but can't quite seem to let go off the idea that they are "The One True Church." He is still scared that having gone against the ministry means he is destined for the lake of fire and does not seem to be able to grasp that they are not the Almighty's ministers. It's like he feels that they were the "One True Church" under HWA and it's only since his death that problems arose and this despite the fact that he is very aware of things said about HWA himself. The man is a mess; we don't quite know where to start in helping him break free, as everything we have shown him seems to only penetrate at the time of reading and an hour later he has forgotten about it or passed it off as propaganda against the Churches. Nothing seems to really sink in. We feel very sorry for him as it is ruining his life and he seems unable to do anything about it. He does not want to go back to the CoG's but can't let go of the fear of being out of them either. He really is an extreme case of being unable to think for himself on any constructive level. Any suggestions of what might help? --New Zealand Reply: Read: "Questions about Recovery."
PCG is a Registered Charity in the United Kingdom:October 8, 2005 I have been out of the PCG for 7 years now. It has taken me a long time to get my head round things. I am however out of the woods. I was brought up in the WCG from the age of 2. My mum was a member. I got baptised into the WCG when I was 22. I married in the church and we went into the PCG 6 months after it started. We were some of the first members in the UK. So I have been about a bit and know what it is all about. In the UK the PCG is a Registered Charity and in being they have to submit annual records to the charity commissioners. Now by law they have to provide anyone that asks with a copy of their annual report of their activity. Also they have to have a public annual general meeting. If they do not, they are liable to prosecution. Anyone should write to them to ask for their report and what time of year their Annual meeting is. Should be interesting. One interesting point is that while we were members we were never informed of these meetings. Maybe it was not on our list of "Need to Know" things. --Former member of PCG in UK
Teen Sees Parents Wasting Their Lives in the PCG: October 8, 2005 I'm really concerned for my parents who have been a member of the PCG for a number of years now. Ever since they've joined I've been dragged along to every Feast, Sabbath and Holy day service, and let me tell you first hand, it's truly not a child friendly place, and I've really had enough. The sermons are as dull as dishwater, I can't believe people can sit for hours at a time listening to this garbage. I have started doing some research on the internet into this group and I'm shocked, to say the least, I really don't know how to convince my parents to get out. I'm only a young teenager, so I'm not allowed to stop attending until I leave home, as my parent's reputation is at stake. They've changed since joining and really can't see that they're being mind controlled. The minister, Mr. Alex Harrison is a cold hearted bully, who thinks he knows best. He's really just a pathetic excuse for a man and a total control freak. The members just want to kiss his butt and cater to his every whim. I'm really sick of this. His wife is frumpy, and needs to, at least, run a rinse through that ghastly hair of hers, or even just loosing the split ends would be a marvelous start. There are really no words to describe how I feel about this church now, after reading the truth. They are always instructing members to "stay off the internet" so it got me curious as to what it is they don't want anyone to read. I thank you for your website, and I hope the truth will set my parents and other members free. --Teenager in PCG
I Took a Photo of Flurry's Hall of Administration Building:October 9, 2005 I decided to send you a photo I took awhile back of Flurry's Administration Building located in Edmond. Needless to say, I was chased off by some security guards, but not before I snapped this. Hope you can post it on your site. --Oklahoma

Numbers Down in PCG:
October 27, 2005 My nephew told me that there were about 1300 at the feast this year in South Carolina, 851 in San Diego, and about 800 in Edmond. That means: 1300 + 851 + 800 2951 There were people in S. C. from Canada and the Bahamas, so that means that the membership in the lower U.S. is below this number. This makes me wonder how many members they have other than in the States. This definitely shows a drop in PCG membership. --South Carolina Comment: PCG counts children, youth and the "unconverted" for their feast numbers. So even this may not show an accurate count for these areas. Updates on the May 11 letter above says there is now only 2 members left in Sri Lanka.
PCG Child Refuses to See Dying Mother: October 27, 2005 Here is a shocking story that is unfolding right now in PCG.
A relative of mine is in her mid-90s (I'll call her "Jane"). Her health is very poor. She was hospitalized shortly before the Feast of Tabernacles due to advanced, terminal disease. She is expected to die shortly. Her only child is a PCG member.
The PCG child refuses to visit Jane in the hospital because "it is wrong to have medical care" and because the doctor has the mother on a lot of pain killing meds and the PCG child says meds are "bad." Please understand, this dying woman is in excruciating pain because of her illness. Without the pain meds, her few weeks left on this earth would be inhuman torture.
This PCG child went to the FOT out of the country within days of the mother being hospitalized! When asked what if Jane dies while (the child) is out of the country, the response was "Bury the woman, so I won't have to deal with it!"
I have been praying to Jesus for this mother and the PCG child. I hope, for both their sakes, that they come together in love before she dies. But, is this the type of behavior the PCG condones? How can they claim to be followers of Christ?
This PCG child will return home soon. I pray he/she will see the mother before she dies. And that he/she will just show her love, rather than condemnation. --Saddened
Double Standards in PCG: October 30, 2005 As a teenager, I always had questions about the PCG. As I got older. I started noticing more and more double standards in PCG. I am still fighting depression but having a husband and a new baby on the way have made me feel like I am worth something. I believe God blessed me with a good husband that will take care of me and our family. What I need help with is that there is still an empty part in me because I need to have my faith back. I don't know what to believe anymore. I know God is out there. What I don't know is what He wants, or how to worship him without being like the people who disgust me in the PCG. --Child survivor of PCG Read: It's Hard to Get Close to God After Being in an Abusive Group.
PCG Tells Member to "Let the Dead Bury Their Dead." November 9, 2005 A few years ago, a young lady friend of mine who was in the PCG would always call her elderly mother who was very ill and unable to get out of bed before the "fellowship dinner" after services. One day after services, and as the dinner was beginning, the young lady received word after she called that her mother had been rushed to the hospital, and was hemorrhaging very badly. She immediately left the dinner to be by her mother's side, which was some fifty miles away. The next time she returned to services, the lady was told that she had been "disfellowshipped." When she asked the minister why, he told her that it was because she had "left the fellowship dinner without permission." She tried to explain to him that she had to leave because her mother had been hemorrhaging very badly and had been hospitalized. He replied to her that she should have "let the dead bury their dead." --Not in PCG

Administration Building is Close to Me:December 1, 2005 Hello, I am a adult child of two former WWCOG parents. I grew up in the WWCOG, going to Y.E.S. and Y.O.U. functions, and even being rejected by AC/AU twice. I have since married, have 2 children and moved from Missouri to Edmond, OK this past summer. I was just talking on the phone to my brother who was telling me that he heard about Gerald Flurry and his outfit here in Edmond, OK. I was surprised! Since I don't keep up with any COG stuff any more, I didn't know that anything was this close to me! And when I saw the picture of the Administration building, I realized exactly where it is!!! And now I know what that structure is! I have seen it before and have wondered what it was! Anyway, I thought I would send a line to say hello. Thanks for the interesting info! -- J.
Dennis Leap's Packing Party: December 6, 2005 Dennis Leap was from the Atlanta, Georgia congregation. I was a one-time friend of the Leaps and helped pack them up to move from Atlanta to Oklahoma. The packing party was fun-filled and lots of rum was poured that evening (things behind the scenes are not as they are on stage). We also got to know the Thompsons. In my opinion, Tim Thompson was certainly not in line with what the biblical requirements would be for a minister of God (or, for that matter, anyone holding a high position in any congregation), though the PCG overlooked those "minor flaws" as they did Flurry's drinking problems. --S. L., Former PCG member Comment: We have been informed that Mrs. Thompson has remarried and no longer works at Edmond, Oklahoma headquarters.
